The Ups and Downs of life....

Boy life can be a doozy! We had one of the best vacations ever this summer. We went back to Pennsylvania and visited my hubby's family and just soaked in all the beauty....
But surrounding that vacation, our poor little dog Squeak injured her back playing with the cat (she is part cow) She charged the cat and the cat leaped into the air and landed on her! She lost the use of her back legs for a couple of weeks...scarey!
But the good news is she is doing great and it seems that she only had a couple of side effects, her tail doesn't quite work the same and she goes down the stairs differently...we are so happy....we were so worried!
Then, when Squeaky seemed good, I was so excited to go back to work with shorter hours (4 hrs.)  My mom is needing more help and I want to build the antique business.... But then my mom got sick....
She has been sick and in and out of the hospital for the last 6 weeks... I feel so bad for her. I am caring for her, she is 83 and has done some...let's say..."quirky" things lately...like go off of all her meds for 3 days!  Oh my! I am having a tough time...she can be VERY Sneaky!  Oh did I mention she is on medication for her heart, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and blood thinners?
Worry, worry........
But... We started school and I am in a new position that I love this year. We have 6 little preschoolers and they are darling and rascally and I am so happy. Last week I came down with the cold/flu thingy, my doctor was very understanding that I was taking care of my mom and gave me meds and I am healing..cough! cough!  And luckily my mom hasn't gotten it...
So.... I guess what I am trying to say is...Life has it's ups and downs... I just need to be grateful of the Ups and plow thru the downs....  Whenever I am feeling defeated, I look at our vacation pictures, or at our cute little Squeak or in the faces of those cute little rascals I work with and realize...life is good....

Vintagey Goodness....

 Well, life has been busy-busy...
My poor mom has been really sick over the last month and finally came home on Friday only to still be nauseous and feel yucky. Today a doctor finally listened and prescribed her some anti-nausea meds and she is doing better.

We ran over to the booth today and re-arranged a little. I found some really cute things at the local flea a couple of weeks ago and we took them in today....
I love this little shelf, so chippy and charming....

And we have had this birdcage awhile but I am always in love with birdcages....

I got this darling pink hairdryer at the flea...wouldn't it be cute in a retro bathroom or in a hair salon?

This child's folding chair is darling and I am smitten with the milk bottle carrier- so many uses!

I added some bingo cards and game packs for fun.....

And this little shelf with the key hole and knob was originally for my home but I never found the right place for it...I like the little sugar jar on top....

This little blue fan was hard to part with...we had it running because the heatwave in Calif. is too much right now! We also added some freshly painted picture frames...they are usually a hit...

And last but not least... a little cheese box filled with whites..

Well, I hope you enjoyed the little tour. I am joining Etsy Cottage Style's Party- Vintagey Goodness... I am in love with all things vintage and just couldn't stay away! And on Wednesday, I will join Timewashed's Blissful Whites Wednesday....
Thanks for visiting! karen....

Our Treasures from Pennsylvania..... (picture heavy!)

I shared about our trip to visit the Amish.... It was a beautiful adventure! The whole Western PA. was so beautiful and green. When we entered  Volant, we found two antique malls and stopped in to find some goodies to bring to our antique booth.... This was our favorite, it is called  The Schoolhouse Shops..... it is a store built in an old schoolhouse, thus the transom windows! They had wonderful goods, fair prices and a really nice owner! If you ever get to that end of the US, you won't be dissappointed!

Here are a couple more pics of buildings we saw in Volant... an old schoolhouse....
And a cute little church structure.....

And here are our treasures that we brought back... an old Tonka pickup, 2 pitchers from Oil City, Pa, a doctor's baby scale, a hobnail bottle, a beautiful tin, some clippies that were used in a store at one time, and a floral hat  (that's for me, the tin too!)

This was my favorite find...a red cross bandage and plasters cabinet... I was so excited to find this baby!  She needs some cleaning but...pitter pat...she is full of history!

We got 3 camera's total, an old clock, tins, santas and some Victorian images on wood plaques....

How about this awesome luggage/hatbox....I love her!

Here is her insides....

Some orange and black tins for halloween, a black train case and lunchbox and some berry baskets....

The other cameras and a toy tin litho typewriter...

Here is the typewriter close up...so cute! I may save this for xmas time....

And I can't leave out this crusty fisherman's basket....

Well, I hope you enjoyed my finds...I enjoyed shopping for them. Can't wait to get them in the booth! I am sharing this post with Debra at Common Ground for Be Inspired Friday's. Go visit and see all the lovely blogs that join in!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!   karen....

Lost Amongst the Amish...Lucky me....

We took our first trip in 19 years back to my hubby's hometown...
Butler, Pa....
Every time I have gone there, I am amazed at how beautiful it is...
Just down the road a bit is Sadie's farm...she lives alone and runs her little shop, farms her little farm and even makes pies and cookies to share with anyone who wants to stop by....
Here is her adorable goat, he likes to wrap himself tightly around the pole of this sign and rest his head on the pole. People keep stopping out of concern for him, but when he is done with his nap, he unwraps himself again....

He is a rascally guy, he can get thru tight spaces and wander off, even with those curvy long horns....

Sadie is Amish...she is going to live in a new little house on her son's property in the Spring...my in-laws will miss her!

We took a day trip to Volant...known for the Amish...we got a little lost...Lucky us!

This is the view out our families' home....so beautiful!

This is their garage cat...(they don't have a barn)

And this is the beauty that we saw just driving down the road....

Thanks for sticking with me...it was a wonderful trip...we even did some junkin' and had funny experiences, lets just say ghosts, parking police, twilight zone experiences...I guess you can say it was a well rounded trip!  hugs! karen....

The Ups and the Downs and Check out this chair!

My Oh My this has been a rough few weeks!
This sweet little pup, Squeak, decided to play chase with the cat who outweighs her by 4lbs and she lost! To the tune of a herniated disk and loss of the use of her hind legs.... Poor Baby!

She is doing much better, but it has been scary for all of us. She is walking but needs to be confined and I have been up every night with her, she is so worth it, but it has been 18 years since I had a little one to get up for...I am quite the dope at night!

We are going to be visiting family in PA for 8 days. I am so excited to see the family and to go junkin'!  I hope to find some old stuff for my little booth!
Have I shown you this awesome chair?  My friend found it on someone's lawn. The lady told her it had a matching chair and loveseat but someone had already gotten it.  My friend's hubby doesn't like it so she sold it to lucky ole me!  It needs to be recovered , I am thinking linen...nice and neutral...It is cheaper than grainsacks and grain sack pillows look great with it.  But do I keep it or sell it...Oh the decisions!
Well, here's hoping little Squeak keeps healing, the junkin' is good and we all (you too!) stay healthy and happy!  Talk to you soon!

Destashing and Filling the Shoppe....

I have been a busy girl these last couple of weeks... I have started working summer school and also have been rebuilding my etsy business.....
Right now I have filled my etsy with some wonderful vintage finds with a frenchy flair....
Items that are hard for me to give up.....
And I am destashing  a whole bunch of Stampin' Up sets...
A sweet friend no longer wanted her stamping collection and just wanted it out of the house and she gave it to me.....
I picked out what I loved, took out one set from my own collection for each set I added and voila!

A nice selection of beautiful rubber stamp sets to choose from!

So.... if you are feeling Frenchy.....or feeling crafty.... come visit my etsy and take a gander... I love visitors! You might even find something you just can't live without!

I am joining Debra at Common Ground  for The Marketplace...a wonderful link to many great shops and shopkeepers. And a way to support small business owners and artisans....and Savvy Southern Style for Wow us Wednesdays!

Happy America Day!!!!!

I hope you are having a fun fourth of July so far!  Ours is going to be a quiet one (sorta)... Our son just left on his first big road trip.  I am so excited for him and I'm a worrying mom at the same time.
My daughter is off to a Hockey game and fireworks with friends, a tradition for her over the last few years.  So...Grandma and Hubby and I are grilling some ribs and keeping the Chihuahua as calm as we can...
Here are some pictures of our patriotic displays in the booth:

I love this little swim suit!
And that Atlantic City beach bucket reminds me of going there as a child.....

How a Hanna Barbara Beach bucket?  It's pretty chippy but still full of charm..... And that shovel...be still my beating heart....

Here is a banner I made to add some color to the booth...

Hope you are having a fun and safe day!  Happy Fourth of July!
